SGS’ Biomedical Research Informatics Computing System Named Overall Winner

at Federal Health IT Innovation Awards

Given to federal health projects that surpass innovation through concept design and implementation, Sapient Government Services, part of Publicis.Sapient, announced that the Biomedical Research Informatics Computing System (BRICS) project with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was named overall winner at the Federal Health Information Technology (FHIT) 2015 Innovation Awards.

Utilizing the BRICS system, researchers can now search all data collected and captured across studies with one system. BRICS enables the standardized collection of clinical data and improves data sharing among qualified researchers. This access, combined with the ability to query a larger amount of data than a single researcher could amass, promotes collaboration in the research community. BRICS fulfills federal Open Data mandates, enables important research to be published, and most importantly, directly accelerates discovery.

BRICS is a set of open source, scalable, and reusable software components used to support the vision of interconnectivity and collaboration across the research community. In use today within the NIH community, the extramural research community and the Department of Defense, BRICS is supporting global research efforts related to Parkinson’s disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, and rare disease research.

A panel of judges that included government and industry leaders evaluated and chose the finalists from dozens of award applications with a primary focus on results achieved. The BRICS project was also a finalist in the Interoperability Category.

The award was received by the National Institutes of Health alongside members from Sapient Government Services’ who worked on the development of BRICS.
