Building healthier communities for those in need

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) provides scholarships and loan repayment to primary care providers for working in areas with a shortage of health professionals. Since 1972, the NHSC has recruited more than 45,000 doctors, nurses, dentists, and mental health providers to work at approved health care facilities in underserved areas.

It was costly and time consuming for NHSC to manually match physicians with approved job sites. Knowing that a digital solution would simplify the recruiting process and make it easier for interested physicians to find and contact understaffed health care sites, the NHSC partnered with Sapient Government Services (SGS).

Helping healthcare professionals find the right match

Pairing the BHW’s vision with Sapient’s technical expertise, we created NHSC Jobs Center to showcase job openings and a wealth of information on high-need, NHSC-approved healthcare facilities across the country. The Jobs Center’s responsive design adapts to all devices, so users have the best experience – whether they’re on the go or on their desktops.

The site’s built-in Google technologies help users decide which opportunities are the best fit. A search locator-enabled map and user-friendly search function display facilities, ranked on urgency of need. Users can learn more about the communities surrounding each facility, noting places of interest like schools, neighborhoods, restaurants, and more.

Placing more doctors in the most critical areas of need

Since its launch on April 30, 2012, the site has attracted more than 240,000 doctors, nurses, and other professionals, with nearly 30,000 new job listings posted, bringing better health care to millions of people across the country.
