As President Obama launches the Cybersecurity National Action Plan (CNAP), including the creation of the nation’s first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Sapient Government Services’ Bill Annibell considers the current volatile cybersecurity landscape and outlines opportunities for the new CISO to make a stronger impact through private and public sector collaborations. Securing the nation’s information is a big job, and cybersecurity offerings from the private sector continue to grow, along with the public’s trust in the private sector providers. This opens up new doors for working together to take a more proactive approach to managing data, as well as detecting breaches as they happen rather than months later. The CISO has the unique opportunity to disrupt the traditional public-private sector silos to create a culture in national cybersecurity that takes a holistic, unified approach.
